Platinum Again for the Alma Mater
Thanks to my UC Santa Barbara magazine, I know that the ol' alma mater has, again, been made the recipient of a League of American Bicyclists platinum level designation as a bicycle friendly university. Platinum is the highest level designation. Per the LAB website, programs are evaluated on their "efforts to promote bicycling in five primary areas - engineering, encouragement, education, enforcement and evaluation and planning." This is the second (consecutive) time that UCSB has been awarded Platinum status, the first being attained in 2019 (designations last for four years, at which time applications must be resubmitted for judging, ensuring that entities, whether they be universities, cities, etc cannot simply rest on their laurels).
** The quote at the top of this post, by the way, is from a little video tour of the new Associated Student bike shop on campus. Take the time (3:30) to watch; I know it is brand new and all, but pretty darn impressive, and may have contributed, at least in part, to the platinum designation.
