Good Deed Doers: Ride for Mike

Some of you reading this probably live a little too distant to give any real thought to traveling all the way out here for a bike ride, others of you might not be so interested in the ride part, but hey, the idea of tacos y cerveza sounds intriguing. Most of you, though, are simply interested in doing what little can be done to help a family that has lost a husband and father. Actually, I shouldn't say "little" because really, it isn't. It is big. In fact doing something to help another person, someone you may not even know, is about as big as it gets.

Among other endeavors, Mike Schmahl was a local mountain biker whose name would pop up every so often in various social media conversations. If I really stain my brain I can picture him at high school mountain bike races - he helped to coach the Claremont High School mountain bike team even though his own son is years away from being able to race. I'm guessing that, with no vested interest, he did that because he simply liked helping out, lending a hand. We can pay back that good-will by buying some tacos, maybe some beer, or even donating to the GoFundMe account. Small gestures that carry some big meaning.
