It's the Weekend: Homer Simpson's Clouds

 "...Good people working hard
Middle America in the middle of the day
Good people working hard for such little pay
But I know a place where you can never be found...

I'm up in Homer Simpson's clouds (here I am)
Homer Simpson's clouds (there I go)
And I'm not coming down anytime soon up in Homer Simpson's clouds..."
(Freund)

There's a local guy (well, I think he actually lives over toward the coast, but he has done shows here in Claremont, and in Upland), Tom Freund by name, who wrote a song called Homer Simpson's Clouds. I don't know how much the song actually has to do with Homer Simpson or with clouds, but it is enough to present a picture of fluffy, yet hard-edged white clouds backed by a sky of unblemished pastel blue sky. If you kept your eyes to the south and west this afternoon, you got yourself a panorama of those type clouds. If, however, you spent more time gazing the other direction, as I did since the roads and trails tend upward in that direction, well you would have seen the same clouds getting compressed and backed up against the mountains and turning grey, and darker by the minute. No more rain is forecast for the nearest future, but boy was it cold Out There (in fact i'm going to make myself a cup of hot chocolate) to help warm up.

Anyway, the conditions ought to be pretty prime, though still cold, for tomorrow's round three of the the Southridge Winter Series. If you're there, you're there, if you're not, you're not, but where ever you are this weekend, make it count, make it yours.

Sunset Peak doesn't always get snow - perhaps a good weekend for a snow ride up the road on the north facing side?
