From the Library: 1989 World Championships (dvd)

Even though the 1989 Worlds, run during a day-long rain storm, ended with a terrific sprint finish between Greg Lemond, Sean Kelly and Dimitri Konyeshev, and resulted in one of the Worlds' most iconic images - of the champion drenched, with right hand punching the air, this dvd is not one of World Cycling Production's best efforts.

The beginning half of the dvd chronicles the story of Greg Lemond, while the race coverage half boils down to not much more than the final lap, which could be okay since you don't need to dedicate two or three hours of watching time, but then you don't get much background of how the race progressed up to that point. There is also stuff missing from the final lap action, for instance Kelly's drive to regain the leaders after, apparently, being dropped following an attack by Laurent Fignon and subsequent chase by Lemond.

I seem to remember being disappointed in this one when I bought it all those years ago, but it is still kind of cool to have it running in the background as I do other things. And besides, it was another big win for Greg Lemond.
