Cycling Claremont: The Adam Cave Memorial Mural

Adam Cave grew up in Claremont, attended school, and graduated from Pitzer College. He passed away in December 2016, while riding his motorcycle home from work, after colliding with a car whose driver turned in front of him.

I usually pass by on the other side of this wall and so, for at least half a year, was unaware that the mural, painted by Chloe Bunde, had been created in memory of Adam Cave in 2018.

If you have an inquisitive mind you might question the relationship between the mural and the "In memory of Adam Cave" written above it - that text is different than the signature of Chloe Bunde, suggesting that it was written by someone other than the artist. I can't find any confirmation, one way or the other, but it sounds good, so I will go with it until I hear otherwise.

If you want to see this mural in person, or any of the many other murals around the campuses, or town, get on your bike, because you're not going to see it in your car.

  1. Hello! This is Chloe Bunde, the artist. This mural imagery was chosen by the parents of Adam Cave. They wanted it to be the imagery for this painted memorial as I believe they took the photo on the evening of Adam’s death. The handwriting is simply different because I was using a different brush size :).
