September Interlude: The Boxer

"... In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
'I am leaving, I am leaving'
But the fighter still remains..."
(Simon)

It is not every day we meet a professional boxer out on these interludes, but every once in a while...

Ivan Pandzic, his father, and Tamera

No, nope, now that I think about it, believe it or not this is a first. Thankfully, Tamera was there, and struck up a conversation with the man with the watch, who turned out to be the boxers' father. The boxer, Ivan "the Cobra" Pandzic, was doing wind sprints uphill along the bottom portion of the road - something he does several times a week (in addition to a whole lot of other training). Anyway, we all talked for awhile - everything from boxing to training to home life to art - Ivan's grandmother was an artist in Claremont.

It was a pretty cool way to end what otherwise was a pretty run of the mill September Interlude. We kept it about at close to home as we could - the Mount Baldy Notch - which means we never set foot on trail, just the dirt service road. The high-priced burger at the top was good, but... high priced. We could look down into the valley and see that it was pretty well socked in, but up above it was verra nice. Anywho, a short post, lots of photos and even more at Claremont Cyclist on the Facebook.

It's the weekend, make out of it what you can, and ride, brother, ride!
