Changing Glasses Season

So, alright, maybe not an official season but, eventually, it arrives every year. It has arrived.

I seems that as soon as summer arrives it is ready to head back out. Not that there aren't many summer days left on the calendar, but the longest days are growing short. It may only be August 2nd but by the time I rode over the levee this evening, off the dirt and back onto the pavement, the sun had fallen beyond the high hills on the horizon. Drivers had turned on their headlights, and I stopped to change sun glasses for regular ones. As recently as seven days ago, that was not the case.
August it may be but people are still skiing on Mammoth Mountain, and there is still water flowing in San Antonio Wash. It didn't take long for the latest pond to fill and overflow; I was curious where the water could be going, as there was no wet crossing further down the trail. As it turns out, the water does not get that far - a small stream has formed along the levee road, but disappears into the ground a short way down along its course.
