Does it Feel Like It?

I picked another four tomatoes off the plants this weekend, likely the last four of the year; there are sill some green ones, but I would be surprised if they make it to a ripened red; of course it is supposed to be back up into the 80s in a few days so... who knows.

It was well before noon, probably 11:00 or so, when we rode back into Claremont Village. It was warm, well into the 70s. While the mrs. waited in line at Some Crust, I waited by the bikes, listening all the while to Walking in a Winter Wonderland drifting out of some speakers at Aruffo's Italian Cuisine across the street. Reacting far more to the sentiment than the reality and, while I contemplated removing arm warmers and vest, people walked by in sweaters and jackets.

We had ridden a San Dimas Loop version, stopping once, in north La Verne, to marvel at the color of the cottonwoods down in Marshall Canyon, and a second time, at Horsethief Canyon Park; I'm not sure what was in the air this morning, but people out walking themselves and their dogs, were certainly affected by it, calling out greetings, waving -  one of them, at the Marshall Canyon overlook, may have had the answer when he commented, "it's why we live here."

Back in the Village, I had hoped to pop into Rhino Records and was bummed to learn, yesterday, that they had decided, out of concern for the well-being of their patrons, to temporarily close down. The trees along Yale are every bit as colorful as those up in Marshall Canyon; I think they will be holding their color for some time still. Of shorter duration, a revamped Gypsy Sisters art show and sale had set up in someone's front yard at the corner of Yale and Harrison - ceramics, jewelry, cloth art and paintings will only be there for a short time, so don't delay. Riders passed back and forth along the streets but only one of them seemed to be ignoring the calendar, riding shirtless past the farmers' market. It is December, but it sure doesn't feel like it.
