Descansandon a Chalan Rest Stop, con tamales

Feel free to correct mi espanol in the title there. Please. Or, conversely, to pat my on the back for being grammatically correct. Spinning down the path this morning, I was surprised to see that the bar and grill at Pico Rivera was open and serving food again. Wouldn't you know it, after settling down with a nice hot cup of coffee, and ordering a breakfast burrito, management told the cook to take a hike. A case of "you just can't find good help these days," I guess. Damn, I was really looking forward to that burrito. Oh well, I knew Omar had tamales, back up at the rest stop today. So, time to get back to it (and we were not charged for the coffee) - that's a plus, anyway.

Whether it's checking out the Franco for sale, chowing down on tamales, or warming the hands by the fire, there is plenty happening at Chalan Rest Stop, on the San Gabriel River Trail, on a winter's morning. But first...

here comes the lead group of Montrose riders...

and I am not seeing Johnny T amongst them.

more smoke than flame at first...

but then it caught.

uh, oh. Then I realized it was intentional

Saturday morning on the SGRT

smoking again

Tamales! Mmmm! Leave it to Tamera. When she noticed a rider passing along the trail, she yelled out "Tamales," and soon enough everyone was calling out "Tamales!" whenever someone rode by. Pollo o carnitas, muy bueno!

How much for the Franco?
