From the Archives: Gunlock Road Race, 1997

So, one final photo from the Gunlock Road Race, Tour of Hurricane in 1997. Clearly the race had not started yet, nor had there been a general call to stage at the line, so I could still joke, or laugh, or request those guys in the back get out of my shot. The Tour of Hurricane's three stages still spread out before us all and, with a little imagination, we could see just how those three stages, or at least this first one, would play out; for some that may have meant attacking on the highest, longest climb of the race, hoping that a couple others would follow along with their own, though ill-formed, visions of victory. There were others who though of the fast descent through Snow Canyon, while still others were hedging their bets on the finish and simply surviving until that time.
