Wafflestomper

Sometimes you'll just be minding your own business, doing whatever it is you're doing at the time, and you will hear something, see something which will bring up a related memory from the past, something that you maybe had not thought about in a long, long time. Maybe that thing from the past was in some way related to that present trigger. I suppose such occurrences happen to everyone now and then, and perhaps the older you get the more chances there are that such occurrences will happen, simply due to a greater wealth of experience. Yesterday evening, this happened while riding Out There, or at least something similar did, as i can think of no connection to what i was doing that could have triggered the memory.

Anyway, as i said, i was riding along when all of a sudden, the word wafflestomper popped into my head. Wafflestomper. Geez, when was the last time you used that word? When was the last time you even heard that word? The '70s? Was it still being used to describe those heavy, unbendable hiking boots that took weeks, if not months to break in, as late as the '80s or '90s? Today's boots tend to be a lot more light, pliable and forgiving. A lot more comfortable in other words, to the point where i don't think today's younger generation of boot buyers could conceive of a true wafflestomper. Not necessarily a bad thing mind you. Anyway...

Doesn't that single track gateway below look inviting? Sort of the same way a weekend looks inviting from the perspective of a Friday afternoon. It's the weekend. Whether you're wafflestomping round your local mountains, or easy riding along the roads or trails, make it a good one.
