Wider Community
You know, I have written frequently about this thing called community. Usually those writings have to do with the local cycling community, but lets face it, the idea of "community" is so much bigger than that. "Community" transcends ideology, political orientation, religion, or whatever human imposed differences you want to imagine. So it was...
not incredible, not surprising, honestly just expected that so many people turned out to Claremont Craft Ales for Kimi Day, with the owners donating 100% of the days' sales to aid in the financial burden for the medical treatments of one of CCA's brewistas. And not that the local cycling community was not involved; as soon as I noticed the Bianchi offered as one of the raffle prizes (we all know who donated that, yes?) it was clear that the local riders were stepping up, and helping out. Given the disasters in nearby Pacific Palisades, and Altadena, there has been a lot of talk about "community" lately. The oft noted sense of community is a powerful one, something not to be taken for granted, nor overlooked for the way it unites people, and the good that it does.
I have absolutely no doubt that everyone who showed up tonight wishes the best for Kimi - whether you see yourself as part of the cycling community, the music community, the beer-drinking community, or whatever, there is one word that each shares in common, that ties us all together.
