Backpedal: SoCalCross Blast from the Past
It was 2014, and cyclocross in Southern California was a big deal, some of the best of the best flew in to race around dusty, torturous ribbons of dirt and turf. There were races way up in The Valley, over at Corriganville, way out in the Inland Empire, out at the coast, all the way down San Diego way, and up the other direction as far as Ojai. It was a bomb cyclone of cyclocross, dropping races all over the place. This weekend in November of that year, UCI sanctioned CXLA took place at Griffith Park - a high profile venue, for a high profile race. Plus, there were bacon hand-ups.
Like a lot of folks, I've heard about the concept of a plan to hold the Turkey Trot CX at Costa Mesa again this year, but so far that concept seems to have become stuck in rumor-land. Ah, the good old days of ten years past.
