April Interlude: Twin Pony-tails

Those double pony-tails were a dead-certain give-away. The scattered line of riders could be none other than Trish's Friday Morning Wrecking Crew and they were demolishing the climb of lower Mt Baldy Road. Trish has long made a good stiff climb part of her Friday ride, and clearly today was not going to be an exception. It kind of felt like cheating, but we left them to that grind and hurried on by with relative speed.

The small parking area at the Barrett Stoddard road was nearly full. Kind of surprising, given it was a Friday, yet kind of not. It was a beauty of a morning after all, so why let it go to waste. The ascent up the Barrett Stoddard trail is not particularly long, not particularly steep, and if you only go as far as the saddle at the head of West Cucamonga Canyon it is about as easy a hike as you'll find in these mountains. Even so, its length is cut by numerous cascading streams, squirrels curse the dog straining at his leash from safely high up every fifth tree, and bird song - it is like a natural surround-sound, coming at you from all directions.

Anyway, the weekend is here. I got mine started off a day early this week. There might be a little rain, but you know as well as I know, that is no kind of excuse to not make it a good one.

I'm coming, I'm coming...

San Antonio Creek

the Gingerbread House

Outback ready; those Aussie's sure know how to build a big ol' all terrain vehicle (I bet my mountain bike can take me more places though)

  1. Nice to see you three out enjoying a hike together. That gingerbread house looks cool. I looked it up and it seems your photo angle is what really made it look so neat. Great photo!
