The 2022 Cycling Connection Bike Build

I was privileged to be one of about twenty folks who got to build bikes tonight. We traded helmets for Christmas caps, cycling kit for flannel and jeans, and gloved hands for greasy ones. Eighty bikes were the goal of this years' Cycling Connection bike build and give away which, if my math skills are marginally okay, comes out to something like four bikes per person. Between bites of pizza and sips of beer, we attached wheels and pedals, saddles and handlebars, kickstands and reflectors, threaded that plastic decorative thing between spokes, inflated tires and, finally, made sure everything was tight. At the end there were bikes lined up in the showroom, there were bikes lined up down the hallway, there were bikes spilling out of someone's office so, yeah, there may very well be eighty more kids who will become happy recipients of brand new bikes before the month is done. The building was the easy part; I believe the Fontana Police Department will be picking up the bikes and handling the distribution, so good on them for taking on the task of spreading some holiday spirit and joy.
