Bikes on Film: A Castle for Christmas

Brooke Shields is no biking beginner, but when she sets out for a ride in the new film, A Castle for Christmas, she looked just a bit shaky to me. That's alright, it looked like she got it under control. I couldn't read any significance into the bicycle - the setting is small and so it made perfect sense to get around on two wheels rather than four is all I could figure. Nothing deeper than that.

A Castle for Christmas follows a pretty typical love story line - couple meets, they can't stand one another, they gradually warm up, get close until it all comes crashing down, hopeless and lost until a friend steps in and tells one he's an idiot, idiot realizes the friend is right and in a nick of time runs back to apologize, making everything alright. It ain't artsy, it ain't edgy, it ain't really even compelling (well, other than that it is set in Scotland, and that it has Brooke riding a bike), what it is, is a big bowl of chili, or beef stew on a cold winter night, comforting, in other words.
