Monday Blues: Ride in Peace Joan Presecan

After i and the family moved east to Claremont, among the first of the city's cycling people - i say cycling people because it is more all-encompassing than cycling advocate, cycling enthusiast, cycling organizer, etc, i met was Joan Presecan (pictured above with another Claremont cycling stalwart, Larry Scheetz). All-encompassing is a far more appropriate description for someone who had such an outsized impact upon bicycling in our little foothill community; whether it was giving a talk, helping to organize a community or Claremont Senior Bicycle Group ride, or helping to establish the city's bicycle friendly streets and spaces, Joan was sure to be found somewhere in the scene.

Anyway, you may have already read, in the Claremont Courier, that Joan Presecan, teacher, School Board member, volunteer, seeker of adventure, and yes, bicyclist recently passed away. This may be a Monday Blues, but over the years many people have enjoyed much more colorful lives due to Joan's involvement. In keeping with that theme, watch for the new Children's Woodland at the California Botanic Garden (where Joan was a thirty-year volunteer) which will soon be dedicated in her honor. Ride in Peace.
