2026 Southridge Winter Series, Race #3
Like a scene out of a solid 'B' level horror flick. The trail, like the intestines of some gigantic monster twisted along the hillside. Here and there it snagged on rocky outcrops, sharp-edged granite. Green yellow bile oozed out, splattered up and down the slopes. Corvids feasted, bees and flies buzzing in a feeding frenzy. Along this path, traction could not be purchased, instead competitors sometimes forced, sometimes willed their tires to grab hold, lunge forward.
Unlike a 'B' horror movie, there were no masked villains hiding behind boulders threatening murder, or at least mayhem for every dab of a foot, or steadying hand, or full-on stop and walk a bit... Hmm, now that i think about it though, that would add a whole other level of suspense. Of course, the scariest thing might be that some racers would not have need to worry, they attack the course with, apparently, not so much as a bobble, nor a wobble, nor a swerve. Considering that the slowest victim always gets the axe first i could be glad that i limit myself to taking pics these days; assuming i could ride three laps before the folks downstairs give up on me riding in, and call in the local search and rescue unit, i would likely be lapped thrice in the three lap race. Yeah, the guy in the ghoul mask would find easy pickin's at the back of the race; racing up and down that mountains' side ain't anything like riding Out There in the wash. It's the challenge of the thing that keeps 'em coming back. And speaking of that, there were a few more "them" than there were two weeks ago, that was good to see; there were even a couple full podiums.
There are three more opportunities for you to rise to the challenge before this years' Winter Series comes to an end, and i can almost guarantee there won't be any lurkers with axes jumping out from behind boulders.
XC wasn't enough, now time for some downhill practice
good race
bothers in life, brothers on the podium
the races eldest statesman had to settle for 2nd today, plus a well-deserved "whoo-hoo" from everyone
