It's the Weekend: Big Fun
Well, i was certainly not ready for that. I don't know about this going from winter straight into summer thing. There is no time to properly acclimate. Perhaps that is why i saw zero other folks out on the trails when, normally, i'd be sharing them with quite a few. It is still only February, right? The after the initial slog up the hill from Brackett Field, and then down to the equestrian center, the ride became a series of slow motion sprints from one patch of shade to the next. While pushing through those longer sunny stretches in between, i'd glance back periodically to see heat exhaustion gaining with each wheel rotation. Managing the two highest climbs in the park was something, i guess, but i gave up on other i would normally expect to do; heck i even skipped out on the final dirt section around the campground, opting to take the easy paved route straight through - and seriously, a gate with lockable hardware and panic bar!? That campground is getting away with far too much these days!
Anyway it is the weekend and, supposedly, a cool down in the temperatures. That should make for some nice big fun:
"... Well jambalaya, crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
Because tonight i'm gonna see my cher amie-o
Gonne pick guitar, fill fruit jar, and be gay-o
Son of a gun, gonna have big fun on the bayou..."
(Williams - but Emmylou Harris version, of course)
Have yourselves a big time!
