Q and (give me an) A: Los Portales Whittier Grand Prix + Landshark

A question has been posed, a question that I am not able to adequately answer. So I am turning to anyone within eye-shot of this page, to see what you can add to the story. The question(s) concern the old Los Portales Whittier Grand Prix - what background to the race do you know of, and do you have any experiences of racing there that you would care to share? A second, and related question - was Landshark a sponsor / supplier of the team? Additionally, was there ever an actual team Los Portales Cycling?

You might remember seeing numerous "From the Archives" posts, with photos, here at the blog, but they do not answer those questions. From what I have seen, the race started in 1990, and for the first two years (at least) as well as the 1995 edition, the race was organized / hosted by Team Cyclos, with Los Portales (the restaurant), and Bud Light as title sponsors. This suggests that there was no so-named Los Portales Team, but as the primary sponsor, Los Portales got the prime real estate on the Team Cyclos jersey, front and back. Sound familiar? Are you one of the many folks with first-hand knowledge?

Incidentally, Los Portales also was the title sponsor again, with Bud Light, of the Santa Fe Springs Circuit Race in 1995, held the day before the Whittier Grand Prix.

Whadda ya got (what do you have to share)?

i'm sure i have mentioned it before, but i sure wish i had kept all those old copies of the racing news i used to have. the above photo is from one of the few issues i kept
