From the Archives: Irish Cycling Review Tribute to Sean Kelly

Can you believe it has been, almost, a full thirty years since the great Sean Kelly hung up his racing wheels. Not that he has ever been far from the game, in one capacity or another, since then, but his last race as a professional was a little annual event in his hometown of Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland attended by Eddy Merckx, Laurent Fignon, Bernard Hinaut, Roger De Vlaeminck, Claude Criquielion, and compatriots Stephen Roche and Martin Earley in 1994. Kelly won in a sprint against Roche. Beside this last honor, Kelly's final win came in 1993 at the Criterium Ulvenhout, Belgium.

The staff at the Sean Kelly Sports Centre gave me this little memento when I visited in 1997.
