Fast Digs: Milano, 1925

Believe it or not, there was a time when newspapers presented more than grudgingly cursory coverage of bicycle races. The caption for this photo (Los Angeles Daily News 15 January 1925) states Fair Speed from Fair Speedsters, and is purported to show the "first woman[s] bicycle race staged recently at the Milan stadium, Italy." Mrs. Colombo, on the right, was the victor.

Never mind that the first women's bicycle race in the Los Angeles area took place a quarter century earlier.
