Monday Blues: Thumb Escapes Confinmint [sic]

The first time it poked through I stitched up the tear with regular old thread. Like some bad guy in a bad western I imagined Thumb saying somethin' along the lines of "ain't a sew job around can hold me, marshal. You ain't seen the last of me." True to his word, it didn't take long for that son-of-a-gun to break out and go on a tear. Well eventually a posse got together and tracked Thumb down, cornered in a box canyon, took 'im alive, sent 'im straight away to the state penitentiary. There, the warden locked 'im up good 'n tight with some of that imitation sinew, strong stuff, not likely to be broken or cut without great effort and much time. Musta been about a week after the lock up, marshal woke in a cold sweat, dream words seemed to bounce off the walls of the dark room, "ain't a prison around can hold me, marshal. I'll be back, and I'll be comin' for you next time." It took a long while for the marshal to drift back into sleep again. The next day, musta been about an hour past noon, the boy ran over from the telegram office - "gotta telegram for ya marshal." The marshal took the piece of paper with the words hastily scratched onto it. He read 'em, though he already knew what was written: "Marshal Wagner. stop. From Warden state pen. stop. Thumb escape. stop. Beware. stop. Message left on bunk. stop. I told ya, ain't no confinmint [sic] can hole [sic] Thumb. stop. end."

You can see Thumb making his escape right in that photo above. The problem with repeated sewing of the tips of fingered gloves is the space within gets smaller with each sew job, and sooner or later... well, there's going to be a breakout. Bummer, 'cause the rest of the glove is just fine.

Hope everyone has had a fine Memorial Day, and have taken a moment to reflect on the lives that have been sacrificed by our nation's military men and women for the common good of us all.

The Monday Blues has been an occasional feature here at the blog since inception; the blues, an emotion, a color, a genre of music, with a cycling twist.
