Cycling Claremont: Petiscos...

a good sized lunchtime crowd gathered and waiting - and how about that line-of-sight,
straight to the front of the Depot

I made mention of this new little gourmet taco place, conveniently located in the Village, a few days ago, and on their second day of business got to savor the fare. The tacos were tasty indeed. I met the wife, we checked out the low key menu, placed our order at the window, and settled in to wait beneath those big shade trees out back. Whether due to opening jitters, or a non-cooperative computer, the wait was a little longer than you might expect for a simple taco joint. Everyone seemed in a good mood, and once the plate arrived at the table, all was forgiven. The wife ordered the halibut taco, while I went for one chicken and one pork. I was assured the halibut one was good, the chicken one was as well. The pork one, with pineapple slices and a pineapple relish was far more than that simple word can possibly describe.

l to r - halibut, pork, chicken

If not for the price I could eat those everyday. Tacos (and tortas) range from $4.00 to $7.00 - only the halibut is $7, everything else is $4 or $5. Meats range from the three already mentioned, with beef and vegetarian selections as well. Each come with their own distinct toppings and salsa on the side. The tortillas were perfect. Beverage offerings of beer, canned soda, or water round out the small menu. While there are bike racks out front, as you would expect in the Village, without a lock we just wheeled ours right in - there was plenty of space around the patio perimeter, but if it was really crowded they might get in the way. There is more room at the back of the lot, and one of the guests had parked his bike there. This may be the way to do it - just roll in the back gate, deposit your bike and walk up front, since the entryway is kind of narrow for both bikes and people. Petiscos is a terrific new option for cyclists (and others) in the Village, is located right next to Jax Bicycle Shop, directly across the street from the Depot, at 211 West First Street, and are open 11:30 to 8:00pm.

The Cycling Claremont series of posts highlight some of the local businesses and points of interest I have been known to frequent because I like what they offer, because they are bicycle friendly, or because they provide something unique or interesting, and which visitors to Claremont may also like.
