Weekly WNGR: Fun Yet?

Was it when you tried to generate some saliva, running your tongue around the inside of that dried out husk of a mouth, across the front of your teeth, only to realize that why yes I have collected enough dust to make a respectable spit 'n mud pie?

Was it when your legs started yelling that you better back off or they are going to quit? Was it when, because you were "somewhere" other than first in line you noticed it had suddenly become darker, yet the sun was still beating down? Hmmm, maybe it is the massive, and thick cloud of dust, you think. Maybe it was when you finally reached the regroup only to start coughing out that cloud of dust you had painstakingly sucked in over the past few minutes.

Like those old time miners trudging up the Golden Staircase on their way to the Klondike, maybe it was when you got off and walked that hill just like the other eleven riders in front and behind you.

(*By the way, yes he did.) More on that later.

Maybe it was when you kept the pedals turning, pulling your front wheel back in line, avoiding a gravel wipe-out. Again. Or maybe it was right after that heart rate spike when the rider in front of you did the same.

It couldn't have been that downhill section; I mean who looks forward to that?

Maybe there were just too many of those moments to pick the exact point during the ride when you said to yourself, "damn but this is fun." No, the fun isn't found in single incidents, it is a sum total.
