The End of Summer
"... The summer ends and we wonder who we are...
And the colors are much brighter now
It's like they really want to tell the truth
We give our testimony to the end of summer
It's the end of summer,
You can spin the light to gold."
(Williams)
The calendar says it is the end of summer, but we all know the weather will have the last say on that and, although it was nice to be gifted cooler temps for the last weekend of the season, we can already see the heat rising from Bonelli's dry grass hillsides. Contrast those one day with the relative lushness streamside Out There the next day - shade-strewn, cool water warping around grey granite and bending over red-stemmed grasses. Further away the pepper trees sweep the ground with delicate fingers, tassels of red, mostly, litter the ground, though a few still dangle like earrings. Every season has something to look forward to.
got to go down, before you go up
finally, after years of failure, i have mastered the right turning downhill switchback
