Music for Your Weekend Ride
With the mrs. out for the morning, and early afternoon as well, i pretty much had my choice of any ride i wanted to undertake. However, since the long Independence Day weekend kind of revolved around music in many and varied forms, everything from barbershop to marching bands and martial songs, to rock and roll (not i didn't take a quick flight to merry old England for Ozzy's grand finale - darn it!), to Americana and folk, i figured i might as well draw down the weekend with more music. The Claremont Lewis Museum of Art was hosting another free performance, just as they did the previous evening - this one a couple sets of Ukulele music by Sweet Music, and a real mix of tunes it was - i heard some Neil Diamond, some Johnny Cash, some Beach Boys, there were hints of Latin, of Jazz and, after all what would a ukulele show be without the mellow sounds of aloha. With those harmonies cutting through the mid-morning sun, i was surprised that more folks didn't wander over from the farmers' market across the street - if i can borrow a line from the 2nd greatest movie of all time, "mother Gue never raised such a foolish child," i wasn't going to miss out, and had made a bee line to the museums' front patio. It may have been a short ride, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a good one.
Incidentally, I didn't do a 4th of July post at the blog this year, but if you follow the Claremont Cyclist on Facebook you will find a photo album of that big annual small town event from Friday as well as the music of Saturday evening.
Though the flooding and loss of life in Texas added some dark clouds to it, I hope everyone else was able to work an enjoyable day or two, or three into their weekend. See ya out there, or maybe even Out There.
