Sports All Day
There was some rugby. There was also some soccer (women's - the Pomona- Pitzer Sagehens versus the Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), water polo (Redlands versus Johns Hopkins, in the Gary Troyer Tournament, in the pool at the time), swimming, volleyball and, later, there would be some football. It was one of those days, a day when just the short ride through the Colleges revealed all kinds of activity.
It was halftime now, the gals of Pomona - Pitzer having broken the 0-0 tie just a couple minutes before the buzzer sounded - and their opponents on this day, the Athenas from the neighboring campuses, were gathered up around their respective coaches, while trying to catch a break from the already hot day. One of the other spectators, having noticed my cycling kit strode over from where he had been taking photos and struck up a conversation. Turns out he had raced with the UCSB cycling team back in the early to mid '90s - small world.
The things we get to see, the people we get to meet when we get out on our bikes - it just cannot be beat.
