Two more deaths in Rancho Cucamonga
Two riders were traveling salmon in a Foothill Boulevard bike lane when an, apparently, intoxicated, driver swerved into the same bike lane to pass slower moving, or stopped traffic hitting the two riders. One rider, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, the other rider, a man, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver, who did not stop until involved in a second collision some distance away was taken into custody by San Bernardino Sheriff's deputies. The Upland riders, unidentified at this time, were struck in the area of Foothill and Etiwanda Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga, Tuesday night.
We all know that simple painted lines are no protection against the metal machines and the drivers, supposedly in control of them, but when you combine the lack of protection, legally high speeds, and too many machines on the road, with alcohol and impatience, people die - they don't go home to their loved ones, their friends will not see them again, their coworkers with stare at an empty desk or office. For what?
