Golden Streets Exploratory Ride: Heart of the Foothills
There is more than a month before Metro and Active SGV revisits the Heart of the Foothills (sans Claremont) as the first Golden Streets event of 2020, a fine amount of time for "the usual" exploratory ride ahead of the main event. Active SGV's Exploratory Rides cover the same routes as the "open streets" events, the difference being that the streets are not closed to motor vehicles. Those who ride both events, then, get to experience the contrast. Today's ride started from Palomares Park in Pomona, rode through La Verne (my first ride along the Bonita Bike lanes since they were installed), and ending at, what will be during the Golden Streets event, the San Dimas hub at the old depot (and railroad museum).
Being completely uninspired to be out on a bike during the past two weeks, I was hoping an easy group spin with a bunch of friendly faces would provide some spark to light the way out of the funk. Largely that is what I got. The morning was brilliant, with a bright blue sky, with clouds flowing in ahead of, what is expected to be, five days worth of rain. The morning was not unusually, or unexpectedly, cool, though far from cold. And the faces, yes, they were indeed friendly, smiles matching the group mood.
Hopefully we'll see many of you out this way on Sunday 19 April.
