Fast Diggers: James Lancaster, 1889
James Lancaster, photographed here on 30 May 1889, was one of the thirty founding members of the Los Angeles Athletic Club, as well as an early member of the Los Angeles Bicycle Club. He later became a concrete contractor and, though I have seen no corroborating evidence, one source notes that the city of Lancaster was named for him. The photograph by well-known photographer, C. C. Pierce, is in the collection of the Huntington Library.
