Ride in Peace, Iffiok-Obong Nsek

The photos I have taken during group rides, or at races, over the past number of years have frequently included images of the Nsek family. During their high school years, Iffiok's two sons were fixtures at the top of the SoCal High School Cycling League standings. The same can be said whenever they have switched out for more narrow profile road wheels. Ifflok's wife of nearly three decades, has frequently spun her own wheels with the Psycho-lists but, and though he also rode, I can't say as that I ever captured a single image of Iffiok (the two here have been shared around Facebook). Though such things pale into insignificance at times like this, they have been a cycling family in every sense of the word.

Cycling is, and has always been, an unpredictable activity. Most times that unpredictability can be managed, but sometimes lady luck in her most ugly guise, casts a dark shroud. Over the past weekend Iffiok-Obong Nsek was caught in that shroud, and while out on a typical weekend ride with his wife, suffered a solo, fatal fall. We can all image the pain the Nsek family is attempting to deal with right now, so keep them in your thoughts, give them the space they need to grieve, and be ready to welcome them back when they are ready. I have no doubt that dealing with the passing of husband and father will be rough, but am equally sure that the character that drives them to be the best, and the shared love that was clearly evident between them will see the Nsek family through.

Ride in Peace, Iffiok-Obong Nsek, and my sincere condolences to Angie, Ama, Imeh, all the Nsek family.

Just a quick update: A GoFundMe account has been established to help with the education expenses of Ama and Imeh. You can contribute here.
