CicLAvia Gets Its Star

...on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. No, maybe not. Yet. But today's edition sure was entertaining. This one, with one anchor at the Disney Concert Hall where the LA Philharmonic is celebrating its 100 anniversary, and the opposite anchor in Hollywood where you could take a shuttle to the Hollywood Bowl, may very well have been more entertaining than any other. In between the two end anchors were multiple stages, such as the Levitt Pavilion at McArthur Park, with continuous musical performances, roving pianos pulled by bikes, tycho drums pulled by bikes, mariachis, Irish step-dancers, marching bands, New Orleans Jazz bands, etc. You might just have gotten the idea that this cicLAvia was all about the music and you would not necessarily be wrong. I think this is about as close as a cicLAvia has ever come to having an overall theme, a concept that might have some potential for future editions; in fact I seem to remember a suggestion for music all along the route when cicLAvia came to the Claremont area earlier in the year. Little did I know it was already being planned.

Those little hills may have made things a bit difficult for people who were pushing, or pulling, others but I dug the extra little bit of work. I must say though, Metro needs to add a dedicated bike car to the Gold Line for afternoon departures from Union Station; since half the people boarding were returning from cicLAvia, we were packed like sardines into the regular cars. People who needed out at the first few stops had to be passed from hand to hand over the heads of everyone standing, although I did notice some of the little kids slithering along the floor - not too sanitary down there, though. Clik for the Flickr photo album.

All in all - a rave success!
