2018 Haynes Family of Programs Charity Bike Ride: The Common Good
What many will call charity, I prefer to look at from a slightly different angle and call the common good. Of course what many would call too much work (riding a bike) I call fun. It is all a matter of perspective. Anyway, the Haynes Family of Programs Charity Bike Ride took place this morning, and continued into the early afternoon hours for, you know, the common good. The Haynes Family of Programs (and its predecessor the LeRoy Boy's Home) has a long history of helping children with special needs; students with learning disabilities, students who have been abused or neglected, others with developmental disorders have all benefited from the services provided by the Haynes Programs since 1946. When viewed from a different perspective we have all benefited from those services - if you don't think helping youths become active and successful members of the broader society you're just not thinking clearly. It is the common good. If you are one of the many sponsors, vendors, or riders who showed up this morning, donated a little either before the ride, or during the festivities afterward, I'm thinking you probably believe in the concept of common good as well.
[Round of applause...]
