Circles, and a River Running Through It

Normally you can hear them from a good long way off, like crickets late in the evening, once the rest of the world quiets down in dark and rest. This time, though, it was not until the passing wheels woke them that the cascade began, first here, then there, then another even further along the trail, one setting off another until the ridge line was alive with the ringing buzz uniquely cicadan. Though summer officially began yesterday with the solstice, this first song of the cicada felt like a seconding motion, a further affirmation of Summer's arrival.

"...Cantando al sol,
como la cigarra,
despues de un ano
bajo la tierra,
igual que sobreviviente
que vuelve de la guerra.

Tantas veces te mataron,
tantas resucitaras
tantas noches pasaras
desesperando.
Y a la hora del naufragio
y a la de la oscuridad
alguien te rescatara
para ir cantando..."
Maria Elena Walsh (Like the Cicada)

the green line

curious why junipers are clustered just in this one area

trails heading down to the green line usually culminate at a water crossing. it was kind of milky today, and as sad as it is to say, it may have been washing day at the homeless camps just upstream

shallow pools

circles, and a river running through. when i came upon this petroglyph it immediately brought to mind the movie I watched just the previous night.

I expect it is going to get a whole lot warmer out in Riverside for the next few months, so I didn't mind getting one more "cool" ride in out that way.
