From the Archives: A Race Bible, and Hoping with Wout

Do they still do "race bibles" anymore?  I suppose for certain races they do, in one form or another, though paper copies may be passé. This race bible - a compilation of all the information you might need to understand the race you have entered - is from the Second Annual Tour of St. George. At some point i must have also had similar packets for the third, fourth, fifth and sixth annual races as well; this is the only one left now. Typically race bibles would be made for multi-stage races; they aren't really needed for single day races, you know, a single page flyer sufficing. This race bible, for a two day, three stage race was six pages, plus front and back "cover," plenty of room to present all the information a racer might need.

Race bibles - that was only half the topic of this post. By now you may have heard that Wout van Aert, who recently spent some time pushing the pedals around some of our local loops here in southern California, had something to say about racing in the United States: "I hope at some point that we have a bigger American circuit. It's a big market... Cycling is 'something' here. It's a shame that we don't use this platform to show off on the highest level." It has been far too long, but we all hope for a return to that level, Wout. We all hope.
