April Interlude: Annoyed

There are a lot of trailheads up on Highway 39 and we tried a few of them today. West Fork / Bear Creek was the first try - closed! Bichota Mesa - closed! Upper Bear Canyon - closed! What gives? I suppose we could have ignored the signs, and would not have been the only day-trippers to do so. But that would not have been the responsible thing to do. By then the only thing left was to finish the drive up to Crystal Lake (which opened for the season today), but before we could get there Finn had enough of the roads' twists and turns, and... baaaarf. He just does not do well on twisting mountain roads. Bummer, 'cause he does love to hike.

By then I'd had enough, and back down the mountain we went.

Hastily concocting a plan 'b', when nearly back home, we turned up Mills rather than down, found a parking spot on the Shinn road and traipsed a ways up lower San Antonio Canyon, that area I am more likely to be seen mountain biking.

So be it, it was still a nice day for a hike.

It's the weekend. Whether your plans involve something out there, or in more urbane surroundings, hope it's a good one.
