April Interlude and Losing a Wheel on Big Tree Road

It wasn't what had been planned. Picking an interlude hike that involves mostly flat is kind of difficult to do when you live right up against the mountains. With a calf muscle that seems mostly healed to walk on, but a mind that is not ready to trust that same muscle, a flat route was exactly what I was looking for. It has been years since I was last at the North Etiwanda Preserve and, while not flat by any account, it is more so than anything else I could think of. Arriving at the trailhead, and after putting up with a car drive (he's not a fan of them), let me tell you Finn was sorely disappointed to spot all the "no dogs allowed" signs forcing him right back into the car.

Not wanting to travel further afield, I scrambled to think of something between the NEP and home. With Cucamonga Canyon still closed, what is it now... two years past its originally scheduled reopening? the one thing I could come up with was the Big Tree Road - at least we could look down into the canyon.

Not a great interlude this month, but the weekend should make up for it - if you've missed all the various announcements, the long-awaited Golden Streets returns to Claremont / LaVerne / San Dimas on Sunday. See you there!
