April Golden Streets: Heart of the Foothills - Having Fun!
Have Fun!
After all, that is the whole point of these open streets events; whether walking, rolling, pushing, pulling or riding, it really all comes down to having fun. As usual, each of the four cities through which today's Golden Streets event passed, had their own "hub" where all the various civic groups had their tents set up so that hey could spread their good word and... was it just me, or did the hubs seem to have a lot more activities this year? Both San Dimas at their civic center park, and Pomona at Palomares Park, in particular had Earth Day festivals with games and activities for the kids, and stages rocking with music. In La Verne I watched people playing badminton at impromptu courts set up on First Street while, judging by the numbers of bikes parked outside (and lines out the door of some) the local food establishments were reaping the benefits of so many people out and about (and out of their cars) on a Sunday morning. Claremont also held their Earth Day festival in conjunction with the Golden Streets, including many informative booths, as well as activities at the Museum of Art, and where a musician rat-tat-tatted away on steel drums. For all that, though, the biggest draw of the day must surely have been the parade of revelers pedaling (mostly) along Arrow and Bonita - the day was for us! And we thank Active SGV, and all the various representatives from the four cities who worked together to make it happen!
