Have You Signed Up Yet?

Knowing that Claremont's pedestrian and bicycle advocacy group, Claremont Streets for People, had put out a call for concerned residents to show up at the most recent meeting of the city council (this past Tuesday), I was rather looking forward to an update on the outcome. I didn't have long to wait, with the update arriving in my mail box the next day.

The main item of concern was the way in which the Towne Avenue Complete Streets project had been studied, developed and was progressing with all the inevitable changes that occur during any project's design phase as a result of feedback from the multitude of stakeholders, and with the latest iteration being far less "complete" than initial projections had suggested, and that safety advocates had hoped for.

As I read through the recap, raising an eyebrow at one sentence here, and another there, let out an impressed "wow" a couple times, I quickly realized that here was a safety advocacy group that could finally make a difference moving forward - the CSP seems quite capable at sharing pertinent information, as well as mobilizing for a collective response. While it appears likely that the Towne Avenue project will move on with deficiencies and gaps, there are other similar streets that will benefit, from what has been learned, to stimulate more effective design and safety outcomes for all.

If you want to be a part of the push to create safer, more inclusive streets in the city of Claremont, spend the moment required to check into Claremont Streets for People and sign up for notifications.
