Two Wheel Tuesday: The Banshee's Lonely Cry
"Out from many a mud wall cabin eyes were watching through that night
Many a manly heart was throbbing for the blessed warning light
Murmurs passed along the valleys like the Banshee's lonely croon
And a thousand blades were flashing at the rising of the moon..."
Indeed there was a rising of the moon when the Fenian Rebellion of 1798 got under way at the end of May. In fact, May 26, the third day of hostilities saw a full moon rising in the eastern sky over County Wicklow, and Dublin City.
Well, there did not seem to be any chance the moon would be rising over Two Wheel Tuesday last night and, thankfully, the nightly sounds did not include a Banshee's lonely croon.
What did come out last night, were the riders - there were singles, and pairs, and small groups of three all over the hills, their paths marked by halos of while light, or flashes of red against the darkness. It was a pretty nice night and, I guess, we all just had the same idea.
