Two Wheel Tuesday: The Waiting
Just as Carole King's Anticipation is about waiting for that ketchup to drop from the bottle, Tom Petty's The Waiting is about the longing for a bike ride. I had missed the past couple Two Wheel Tuesday rides due to conflicting events and weather mishaps. So when Tuesday this week came around I was full of anticipation. But first I had to wait. Wait not just through those three weeks surrounding the two missed nights, but wait through one very long day at work as well. My informant tells me that ol' T.P. was waiting for a ride too when he came up with the words for his song - the waiting and then eventual requital when those wheels began to turn. You do need to read between the lines because, well, because rock and roll stars have reputations to uphold after-all.
"Oh baby don't it feel like heaven right now
Don't it feel like something from a dream
Yeah I've never known nothing quite like this...
The waiting is the hardest part
Everyday you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part."
Turns out it was single-speed night on the dirt route, though someone forgot to inform half of the evenings' group. If he hadn't been AWOL Ed would have been right at home spinning along with the trio of s.s.ers who always seemed to be up the trail from us gear heads. Anyway, that requital at the end of a three week gap felt gooooood, matching well with the post-ride tacos and beer.
