Journey to Bountiful
I don't know if anyone else has noticed but some of Bonelli Parks most narrow trails are lined with young thistle plants. Right up there, and mixed in with the mustard, they are going to be a bumper crop, both sooner and later. It may be a good time to invest in some shin guards; those spikes and thorns are serious, especially when they dry out. The winter rains were good for all of the hillsides' plants - both the Sambucus mexicana and the cacti are either in full bloom, or soon will be - good news for lovers of elderberry wine and prickly pear jelly. As for the monkey flower, it may not hold any nutritious value, but its orange sure looks good cascading down between the cactus pads.
It is quite a Spring out there and the only way you will really see it is by twos - wheels or feet.
