Ivan Aguilar Memorial Bike Ride...

California Polytechnic University student Ivan Aguilar lost his life yesterday while riding his bike at the campus. In remembrance of his life, to mark his passing, as a call for safer conditions, a memorial bike ride has been organized by Pomona Bike Week. The ride/walk, and ghost bike installation, will take place on Thursday 7 March from 11:30 to 1:30. If you are able, if your schedule allows, I would encourage you to bring out your bike and join the memorial in remembrance of this lost life. While I don't want to detract from that purpose, officials need to realize that incidents like this are unacceptable on our public roadways, let alone those of a university campus. By participating in the memorial, by showing our respect for Mr. Aguilar, we can show that, even in death, life has meaning and that tragedies like this, with appropriate planning and care, should be preventable. A Facebook page for the memorial has been established, more information can be had there.

I want to express my condolences to all those who knew Ivan Aguilar, his family and friends, his fellow students.

Update, Thursday, 7 March. I was fortunate to attend the memorial today - jump to my impression of the tribute here.
