Slow Riding Saturday: Soccer Balls and Butterfly Wings
Distance, Ha. I am pretty sure my legs do not remember any such thing by now. Muscle memory of one-hundred mile rides, seventy, heck even fifty? Any rides of that distance are so far in the past, that the memory of them... likewise, nothing but vapors. Now, it was a fine day for such a ride, wasn't it? Sunny, warm, brilliant blue sky, all brought out the most vivid of colors from flowers (those that are still around) and butterfly wings. Instead, it was a day for another of a long string of short rides; while my idea was to practice my action photography, other riders saw an opportunity to ride over, take their shoes off and sit in the sun while watching the women Sagehens of the Pomona Pitzer soccer team take on the Panthers of Chapman University.
As for the photography... i think i got some decent shots. It sure is different than race photography though. Both may be fast, but the pace in soccer is constantly changing; similarly, cycling is unidirectional, while the direction of the ball, and thus the athletes, can change by the second in soccer. Both those make it especially challenging. Fortunately, proximity to the Colleges provide many opportunities for practice. Tomorrow ought to be nice too, so get out and enjoy!

All the photos are fabulous, but the butterfly one is magical! Well done big brother!
