Up the Road: Haynes Family of Programs Charity Bike Ride

Many of you know of Guy La Rocque because you see the La Rocque Better Roofs vehicles driving around from job to job site; maybe you even had a roof repaired or installed by his company. Honestly, I am in that same group; I can't say as if I have ever, knowingly, been on a group ride in which Guy was also spinning with the bunch (though it is pretty likely), but I do know that he has long been a big supporter, and participant, of cycling activities.

But support of cycling, cyclists and cycling events is not the only way Guy gives back to the community. If you are local you may already be aware of his efforts to aid homeless U.S. military veterans. Another of the "causes" Guy has taken a personal interest in over the past number of years has been the Haynes Family of Programs, whose campus lies in the city of La Verne just over the hill at the edge of Towne. What started in 1946 as the LeRoy Boys' Home has grown into a diverse, yet focused non-profit with four programs of direction - a non-public school, residential treatment, mental health services, community outreach. The are "dedicated to helping children with special needs relating to emotional development, autism, Asperger's Disorder, learning disabilities, abuse, neglect and abandonment."

Partnering with Monster Media Racing, Guy has taken a personal hand in introducing Hayes students to cycling and other physical activities and is, this year, a supporter of the Haynes Family of Programs Charity Bike Ride, taking place on Saturday 15 September - though the ride is a free event, donations are gratefully welcome.
