Medici in Pink and Blue...

Many of Southern California's notable frame-builders got their start, or developed their talents, among the ranks of Masi. Two of those, Mike Howard and Gian Simonetti, left Masi in order to form their own brand - Medici. Medici bicycles became high prized in SoCal, and beyond during the 1980s and 1990s. American-made with Italian race styling, they were just what many competitive cyclists were looking for. As you know, the first club I rode with was the Chevrolet/LA Sheriffs, and while the pros on the team rode Medici "black and whites" (naturally), the rest of us would have been more than happy to spin around on frames painted in the teams familiar green and yellow color scheme. I am not sure if the model name of this one is El Dorado or Camino Real - stickers say El Dorado on the seat tube, but I am sure I saw a Camino Real sticker on the chain stay. This one came into the hands of Dale at the Velo. It is in sweet condition, and I am sure some college student will grab it up, so check it out while you can.

  2. So that's what happened to it. Hope it finds a deserving home.

  3. I have a frame with Camino Real on the chainstay, El Dorado on the downtube, and, strangely, a bell decal on the seatpost and headtube. Appears to be authentic frame from what I've researched and I'd swear it's the original paint. Has chrome fork with campy dropouts (also different from other descriptions). No metal-type decal. I have it built-up with Shimano 600 Arabesque/Dura-Ace/Campy bits. Rides real nice. Anyone know more about this interesting frame?

  4. Thanks for the question John. Views of older posts like this can be few and far between - the old out of sight out of mind thing and, unfortunately, I really don't have much knowledge about Medici specifics. Have you tried any of the C&V forums? or even the Steel is Real group on Facebook - they are pretty active and might be able to provide more info. Interesting and quality build you have on it; I can well imagine how nicely it rides.
