Cycling Claremont: At the Western Boundary...

There are two things to notice in the above photograph, and neither has to do with the end of the bike lane in the foreground, the Citrus Regional Bikeway. The first thing to notice is the fresh pavement. The view is looking west along Bonita Avenue at the city boundary between Claremont and Pomona. What used to be a badly deteriorated roadway rife with potholes and cracks, a virtual obstacle course for cyclists, is now nice and smooth. No more bunny hopping those pesky gaps. No more flicking around tube puncturing pits. No more hoping a crack doesn't catch your front wheel in the middle of the Bud's Ride.

The second thing to notice is that orange-colored Citrus Regional Bikeway (CRB) sign right above the Pomona city limit sign, and particularly, that little "end" sign right in between the two. One can only hope that those painted bike path lines will be extended though Pomona, the CRB will continue past this point, and that one little extra sign can be removed.

In other news, it is good to see that our recent spell of triple-digit temperatures, which today also took a turn to the humid side, has not taken people off their bikes. The bike racks around town are well occupied, errands are being run, morning and evening commutes still go on as always. Being stuck in a hot car on a hot day is about as uncomfortable as it gets; clearly a lot of people realize that.

23 August 2012. Rather than create an entirely new post about this, I thought I would just update this one. The fact is, this is an update that could/should have been done a month or more ago. If you are local you probably already know that the Citrus Regional Bikeway has indeed been extended through Pomona, and right up to the border of La Verne. The eastbound CRB at the Pomona/La Verne boundary looks like this:
